Former tree

Well, what I blipped yesterday wasn't the final cut. When I returned home, the beautiful tree that had been standing at this spot for as long as I can remember (about 33 years I guess) was reduced to a pile of logs. But why? There was another tree cut nearby because of changes to the layout of the road but as far as I can see this one didn't need to be cut.

I'm going to check with local authorities to find out...
