Fire and Ice

I got a tip off this morning from one of the boat owners down at Alloa (cheers Riverman) that they'd all hauled their various vessels off the river last night as they were expecting ice flows.

So I took a crunchy walk down that way today to see if there was any huge icebergs flowing down towards Stirling. It's a long way off what we had at the start of 2010 but as it's only just the start of December it's quite scary that there's ice down this way already. So not only are the roads, the railways and the airports been badly hit with the arctic conditions this week it now looks like our river traffic's being affected now. In fact, this weekend's pleasure cruise setting off from Alloa on the Maid of the Forth has been postponed. There were larger clumps of ice flowing a bit further offshore but you can see a smaller clump just of the old pier in this shot.

It's definitely been a strange week all in with so many days lost to the snow and with no clear sign it's going away any time soon. Hopefully we've all adjusted to the shock to the system this week and can cope a bit better with it if it continues into the winter proper. Good signs of that actually happening too as we've just taken delivery of some tasty Thai, so if the take-away drivers can manage then surely the rest of us can.

Off for my red curry now, have a cozy weekend all.
