Rascaletta revisited

If you have been reading my blip journal since last winter, maybe you remember Rascaletta, or Buckwheat as Bob nicknamed her. She was the tiny orphaned deer born very late in the summer of 2009 and nurtured through a cold winter by those of us who walk regularly in the park. This is what she looked like last December.

We helped to watch over her all winter, carrying corn kernels and apples to the park to make sure she had enough to eat. Then, once spring rolled around, we didn't see her again. That's not unusual. The same thing happened the year before when we fed and watched over a tiny deer we called Rascal. As soon as the snow melts, warm weather arrives, and food becomes plentiful, the deer vanish back into the deeper wooded areas of the park. But today I saw (and blipped) this deer that I am pretty sure is Rascaletta. Why do I think, after all this time, that this may be Rascaletta? She is about the right size and has the same look to her face, and she was alone, as Rascaletta often was. Wouldn't it be great if I am right? Since she can't talk and we didn't microchip her, we'll never really know, but it's fun to at least pretend she's back.
