Inside a Tunnel Kiln....

There are various ways of burning bricks, from Clamp firing to the advanced Water cooled tunnel kiln such as the one you see here at my works. Although I have always wanted a kiln about 30 meters longer.(assignment)
Not many people ever see inside a kiln so whilst mine is off during December I thought I would show you all what it looks like inside. This is around 2/3 down the length of the tunnel, it is being cleaned at present and the two shadows here are Paul and Caz, cleaning the sand and clay from the base.

You also can see the side firing burner holes, and just left of centre top are the thermocouples poking through, these control the heat.
On the floor are two rails where the kiln cars are guided through.

BTW this is where Joe's brick was fired.
