A Quick Dip

As promised in my previous blip, I went down to Lake Padden to see the Polar Bear Swim today.

It was fun to watch, and most of the participants seemed to enjoy the experience in spite of the frigid air and water temperatures. The water temperature was 30F/-1C. Most people were in and out of the water in 20 seconds, but a few of the hardier ones stayed longer or went back for seconds.

I recommend that you view this large, and look for the arm holding a top hat out of the water -- upper left. The owner is submerged. You can see the whole sequence in my Flickr photos. In the last photo the top-hatted gent is holding a piece of ice as a trophy.
