Wednesday 2 February 2011: Scotland's newest University

It was a great privilege this morning to take part in the event that formally marked The granting of University title to the University of the Highlands and Islands whose new sign now stands outside their offices on Ness Walk in Inverness. Not many education ministers get that opportunity and the acquisition of title is both an end to a long campaign and the beginning of a new future for the area. Even the rain could not dampen the high spirits , optimism and confidence and Gaelic was a good part of the mix.
