Learn to Fly

Couldn't resist this blip despite all the dirty spots on the camera lens.

Today was a return trip to Buxton to check on poorly child and pick up my gear.
Poorly child better and so was the weather.

Cresting a hill i spied in the distance a flock of large colorful birds drifting lazily to and fro in the thermals, oblivious to the trials and the tribulations of the world below them.

Further inspection revealed them to not be huge birds of prey or a band of harpies escaping from a Ray Harryhausen shot, but they were in fact paragliders, 20 or so in a loose formation of colours and shapes, taking advantage of the late winter sunlight to take to the air ...

Icarus reborn, but without the smell of melting wax and cries of "learn to swim young man, learn to swim."

I've gone off on a tangent here i know, but i still laugh at that public information film with the fairy godmother and Mike (who incidently swims like a fish)

Anyhoo, i was so struck by the beauty and the majesty of the image of these people defying gravity and the laws of nature i took a bit of detour to try and get close enough to get a decent picture of them..

as you can see i failed,

but you know i don't really care that much because it was a magical unexpected moment, and it made me smile and realise that life is full of these little moments of pleasure which do make things worthwhile,

and i made my way back home without learning to fly..
