Monday 21 February 2011: Round the back
Today's destination is The Strand, so I popped into The Savoy to have a look at the new refurbishments.
The overall ambience hadn't seemed to change remarkably since I was last there in 2005 and the layout still the same. I was aware from documentaries however that all the paintings now were fake and Stuart Gillies, Grill menu very safe and recession proof after the the gloriusly inventive Marcus Wareing moved out in 2007.
More interesting was around the back of the hotel, where refurbishments had definitely not happened. I wonder whether staff quarters have received a refit or not. I'll ask next time I go in.
