The Edge of the Wold

Mountain flow

Simon prepares to descend off An Sgarsoch, before ascending the opposite slope to go to the top of Carn An Fhidleir, two very remote Munros approached from Glen Feshie.

Brokenbanjo has written a step by step account of a glorious day in the Cairngorms. The only lowlights were Bill pulling his calf muscle and leaving us three to go onto An Sgarsoch; and the last couple of miles of the day yomping across blanket bog to get back to the Feshie.

Highlights included:

Lots of flowering purple saxifrage
Two golden eagles in an aerial dogfight
Golden plovers' plaintive peeping
Frog orgies in pools in the bog
Ptarmigan belching
Woodcocks roding
Two new Munros bagged and about 14 miles walked
A barefoot crossing of a freezing Feshie river in the twilight
Hot chocolate waiting at the campsite
A massive veggie curry

Plus new birds for my 2012 year list:
Peregrine
Golden eagle
Red grouse
Ptarmigan
Golden plover
Woodcock
Year list now on 116.

This is the third back blip in random order. One more to go. I'll probably do that on Saturday sometime.
