New Zealand's High Country

This morning we both decided we would disappear, like have a "convention free" day :)
We set off not knowing where we would end up but thought possibly Peel Forest. However, we just keep driving, through the Rangitata Gorge, and all the way to Mesopotamia Station and the end of the road. Took ages, lots of stops for photography, the day was magic, blue sky with new snow on the mountains.
I think the mountain in the background is Mt Potts; Take a look at the map to see where this is if you care. Better large.

This is on the way, Forest Creek Station, bringing in the sheep. Their lambing hasn't started yet, but will be underway soon.

On our travels we saw such a lot of trees alone or in plantations down, roots and all from the recent storms. A lot of work clearing these, bringing firewood for many.

We didn't get home until late and are now settling in for the South African rugby clash against the All Blacks. Go the AB's
