The Nutcracker

Today's the day ........................ to decorate

I spent the afternoon helping Mary to make decorations for the 'With Singing In Mind'  Christmas tree that will be on show with all the others in Kendal Parish Church during December.

The theme this year is - Fairytales - and we have chosen the story written in 1816 by German author, E T A Hoffman of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.  It tells how a young girl's favourite Christmas toy, the Nutcracker, comes alive - and after defeating the evil Mouse King in battle, whisks her away to a magical kingdom populated by dolls.  In 1892, the story was adapted and turned into the famous ballet of the same name with music by Tchaikovsky.

So here we have a toy soldier, the Mouse King and the Sugar Plum Fairy in the early stages of being turned into decorations.  Needless to say, the Sugar Plum Fairy is destined for the top of the tree ........................
