Kirkcudbright Harbour

Today's the day …………………….. to name a ship

The tide was high and the quayside was lined with fishing boats in Kirkcudbright Harbour this morning.  This one is the M.T. Susan Bird  (FR-357).

She was built in 1964 and started life as the Cornelis Jan.  Four years later she was sold to the De Vries family in Holland and renamed Ebenhaezer.  In 1973, she was bought from Holland by Alan Edwards of North Wales and three years later was sold to Charlie Bird of Fleetwood on the northwest coast of England - who changed her name to Susan Bird  after his granddaughter.

In the late 90s, she was moved to Scotland and started operating as a 'scalloper'.  She has worked out of a number of Scottish ports since then including Aberdeen, Fraserburgh - and of course, Kirkcudbright.

Here she is coming into Eyemouth harbour in 2017 …………………….
