LL Cool Jim

A thought

I read something recently reminding me of the auld fella.

It made me think of how I was progressing. Do you slowly turn into them and at one point....that is it....you ARE them? I rant too much (check blip history).

I loved the old guy and he was a great man but I found being in his company for long spells would induce a verbal "square go" followed by my walk-out. I was out of the house from the age of 18. He had become redundant in so many of his life roles - parent, boss, employee, home-builder - in his sixties and would have you believe he was simply a taxi-driver for all of us. His four sons were as good as gone from the nest most of the time by now.

A man makes his home his castle. His domain. He likes to rid the room of argument until he remains there alone.

I don't wanna be like that but if I can be like him in most other ways I'd be very happy.

Blipfoto....cheaper than therapy.

Here's what I read. The fella took home 1st prize in the Sunday Times Culture mag's competition for naming your fave song and writing why it was your fave.
A quality winner:

I am 60 years old. I am a grumpy middle-aged man for whom the world is falling to pieces. I am frequently outraged and spend many of my waking hours raging against the injustices, slings and arrows of the mess that surrounds me on a daily basis. My hero is Victor Meldrew, who I now regard as a soul mate. I am cold, disliking displays of affection and hating emotions and their outward expressions. I am the only motorist who can drive, and should have a path cleared for me every time I venture out in my car. I am a pain. Then I hear Lennon?s In My Life, and the tears well up, the loved ones I knew and I know now surround me. I am bathed in love and nostalgia, of longings and such memories. The grumpy old geezer goes back in his box for just a few exquisite minutes and the young man, so full of mystery, joy, excitement and loves, is back. The lyrics say all I wish I could say, and reveal all the feelings that lurk beneath the surface. The Beatles enriched my life in so many ways, and I thank John for In My Life every day of my own. I?m off to play it now, and first I shall be sad, then I shall smile again.
