Safeguarded rose

This Rosa helenae just outside our allotment was regularly pruned by the roe deer for its first two years or so. Almost all the growth and all the rose buds were systematically removed by these very efficient animals. The only solution was to cover it with a "berry net".

Now the deer can't get at it - and we are rewarded by lots of flowers! Hopefully next year it will climb even further up the trunk of the rowan.
