Queen Anne's lace

I grew up in a small town...no malls, no movie theaters, no swimming pool...just a very small town right spang on the Mason-Dixon Line that, at the time of the Civil War, marked the dividing line between the North and the South. There was no public transportation either, so if I wanted to go anywhere I walked or rode my bike. Queen Anne's lace grew wild everywhere along the side of the road, and I can remember the bouquets I would carry home, immerse in water tinted with food coloring, and watch as they slowly changed colors. I guess it could have been considered a science lesson, but I just thought they were pretty and fun to watch. Isn't it strange the memories that can be triggered by something as simple as a flower.
