Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Front Row Seat

Today we had a front row seat on doing nothing!

We woke this morning to a pristine sky--not a cloud in sight. What we could see was the land at both ends of this Monterey Bay. Spectacular, just spectacular!

So Mr. Fun made our coffee. We discovered French press just a year ago and think this method provides the best flavor. Just a month ago we found the mini-press in a thrift shop, so of course I bought it. I like "chocolate" blend. So the mini-press is mine. He makes Columbian or dark roast or whatever in his.

Late afternoon I enjoyed watching Bob dog watch the action down on the sand. He loves other dogs, but because he's always been an only kid, he doesn't know how to play with the other kids. He gets all excited and after a few sniffs, loses interest quickly. So from a distance, he had to be content to watch.

As we were preparing our evening meal--grilled chicken, corn-on-the-cob, roasted potatoes, salad, and sourdough bread--the sun was quietly slipping into the ocean. So we stopped long enough to listen for the sizzle and to catch a blip.

It's been a lovely, wonderful, do-nothing, front row seat day here on vacation in Santa Cruz.

So good night from the western edge of America.

P.S. Sad to learn this evening that John Updike is no longer with us. He's been an excellent author.
