Ground Breaking Ceremony

This afternoon at 3:30 the campus where I teach celebrated another historic moment -- a celebration ceremony to "break ground" for the new "Student Success Center." Lots of dignitaries from the college district, from the other two campuses, from the communities of Norco and Corona, as well as students and faculty were present.

There wasn't a lot of fanfare, but enough for everyone to know it was a special occasion. There were lots of blue "hard hats" and "gold shovels," and enough dirt turned to now properly announce that we are again "under construction." This new building will open in the fall of 2010. There was also a surprise today. Our campus president was officially honored when the announcement was made that the building will be named the Drs Bill & Brenda Davis Student Success Center because she and her husband have given enormous amounts of their time, energy, and love to this campus.

When I started teaching at the campus in September 1991, there were two buildings. The development and expansion of the campus these past 18 years has been quite spectacular. We currently have just over 10,000 students, nearly 200 full time faculty, and many large buildings.

It was a good day! Good night from a very hot Southern California.
