Winter arrived today .. at last!

I was still bragging to DZ yesterday about the very mild winter we have had so far, when, lo and behold, I was made to eat my words.

Stormy weather originating from Cape Town has reached our region, and together with a welcome shower, the cold weather arrived.
Ice blue clouds, propelled by a strong wind, are passing overhead while holding on to tons of moisture that we need so desperately.

Yesterday I noticed that the first of quite a few strelitzia has started to show it's colours .. it should have been a hint of the approaching cold, as these really flower in the winter.

I have just heard that the mountain tops in and around our region have a sprinkling of white.

Strelitzia is our national flower, and is known by a few names: blue crane flower, bird of paradise
