Ruscus berry

Ruscus is an ever green shrub, of which the stems and leaves are often used in flower decorations and bouquets.

The 'leaves' are evergeen, and in fact not leaves! These so-called 'leaves' are a extension of the stems. Underneath, these leaf-like flattened stems bear small white flowers in the centre of the branchlet. ('Leaf').

Red berries will appear after the flowers have died off.

The berry in the image is in the process of turning red, about the size of a small pinky nail, - I thought it suitable for a blip.
