Must see No.5

The Blockships. - by special request from Hope!

More of a can't not see really. It would be difficult to visit Orkney and miss the blockships. Unless of course you miss out the linked South Isles totally. The ships were sunk to block the entrances into Scapa Flow during the wars. And were eventually replaced by the Chruchill barriers.

Most have now rusted away or been salvaged. Some have been gradually buried under the sand to form new beaches. These along with other wrecks are a favourite spot for divers. If anyone is interested in diving then I am told that Scapa Flow is one of the best places to dive in the world.

This one is at the third barrier and is probably the biggest left. The rusting bulk on the left is one of the original moulds for the cement blocks used to build the barriers.

Hope - I'll attempt to get a pic of the ones buried under the sand soon.
