Awaiting repairs

Two days ago we awoke to a burst pipe in the kitchen. Luckily we found it fairly soon after the leak must have started and the water only got as far as the hall and under the stairs. Thankfully it didn't reach any furniture and most of the things we pulled out from under the stairs we had forgotten were there anyway.

Still, it meant a sleepy mop up operation and a lot of wet plasterboard. Our plumber came out pretty fast and sorted out the pipes and now we are going through the tedious process of getting our insurance claim sorted out.

I guess there's no real hurry though as it all needs to dry out before we can get everything redecorated. We now have a dehumidifier running and the amount of water it's collecting is quite alarming... and weirdly fascinating.

On the plus side, when the woodwork and windowsill were removed to fix the pipes we discovered a small leak at the window which we managed to patch up before it became a problem.

I've also decided I like being able to see the stonework of the house. Might have to figure out a way to keep it exposed without freezing our butts off through the winter.
