Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Goodbye Harvest Holiday

Hello Christmas Season!

So this morning at church when the worship celebration concluded, a group of us transformed the harvest theme to the wonder of Christmas. The pumpkins have now been removed and the evergreen wreaths with big red bows and lots of poinsettias are in place. It all looks quite lovely.

I would grieve Thanksgiving's conclusion but the celebration of Christmas is spine-tingling too and the true meaning of the holiday is awesome.

December includes many opportunities for get togethers and we have several family birthdays -- Mr. Fun's is the 14th and daughter Deidre's is the 31st. So this new season is welcomed with open arms.

We didn't do this today, but many times in the past on the Sunday afternoon of Thanksgiving weekend we've gathered a group of friends in our home for a festive event we've called "The Entrance to Christmas." It means the day after Thanksgiving we must decorate the house for Christmas. Our musical friends lead us in singing Christmas Carols, we read the "Christ"mas story from the Gospel of Luke, everyone is invited to share a Christmas memory, sometimes we do "white elephant" gifts, lots of delicious food is served, but absolutely the craziest, fun moment is when we give everyone a copy of Garrison Keillor's "The Seven Principles of a Successful Christmas," and we all take a section to outloud. It's a long article, so you have to want to read it, but with a group of friends gathered -- it is a scream, absolutely hilarious. So, I encourage you to take a peek at it.

It's been a long lovely week starting last Sunday afternoon in Laguna Beach, then home to Thanksgiving, and now on to Christmas -- but tomorrow the rush of a new week will be pounding at our door early. So I'm reminding myself that when God made time, He made enough; therefore, I don't need to panic or stress. I just need to accomplish one task at a time. That's my goal.

Hope your new week is memorable.
Good night from Southern California.
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
