Asparagus Berries

I was surprised to find these berries on one of the asparagus plants. As the plants are thirteen years old and none of them have had berries on before, I had assumed they were all male plants. Having a female means seedlings and eventually more plants. The berries are perfectly round. These are distorted by the water drops.

One of the supermarket chains is advertising fresh asparagus imported from the Northern Hemisphere, presumably for people who don't know what really fresh asparagus tastes like.

I stalked a rather nice steam train today, for anyone who is interested.
