Muriwai Beach

Out west in Massey today to pick up a second bike I got for $30. It's a rusty junker but it has some good parts (wheels, kick-stand, reflectors, maybe shifters) which I'm going to put on my other bike.

Figured since the weather was good and we were already half way there might as well skip over to a west coast beach for the afternoon. So Jen and I decided on Muriwai.

First we went to the four-wheeler access beach where people like to ride motorbikes, beach buggies and four-wheelers really fast, and horses really slow. The light felt later than the time because clouds were blocking direct sun but allowing a nice gap on the horizon to the north. We walked down the beach with the dog-walkers avoiding the speeders as they flew by (sometimes only on their back wheel).

We had enough of that beach so we walked the mushy black-sand trail back to our car and then followed the road it bit further to the main beach. By then the sun had popped out and it felt very nice (although it had its ill effect on some).

We walked past the cliff, the tidal rocks, and more dog-walkers to where all the birds hang out, then back down the trail for one last look at the ocean before heading home.

Stopped and bought tickets early for Eagle vs. Shark tonight (it had sold out the previous two times we tried to see) so now I'm off to the movies again.

Great day!
