Wendy's World

It's Official!

Remember this?! We had given up on the house martins nesting in the shelter of our window, three floors up, but then whilst hanging out the washing this afternoon I looked up and there it is! I now have a stiff neck from trying to blip these speedy little birds for several hours as they flew back and forth with nest building materials. Hence the not very good blip. I did try hanging out of the first floor living room window for a while but that was somewhat hazardous.

I'm really excited, 'Springwatch' has just started on the tele and I feel like I have my own tv programme going on above my head. According to my bird book the house martin's nest will be 'flask-shaped' with an entrance at the top when finished. It is being made of mud reinforced with plant fibres. We can expect four or five glossy white eggs. From our vantage point above the village I can follow the birds as they head across in search of food and materials. I have the window open behind me and can hear them twittering when they both land together. Just have to get the neighbours interested now and might need to persuade Lawrie to drop in with his posh lens after the orienteering on sunday!
