Chairlift

Bad weather again today so more meetings instead of skiing. Too bad really, as in a weeks time all ski areas will be closed for the season. Summer is here.

Not that you would have guessed from the weather today. Gale force winds and rain. Yuck!

An interesting thing about skiing in New Zealand is that while most of the mountains are in the South Island, the North Island does have a large mountain called Mt Ruapehu - it's a volcano.

This has two implications; firstly it's a magnet for bad weather, being only an hours drive for the coast. Secondly, it infrequently erupts, which it did a few weeks ago. Strangely, while they closed for 2 days to make sure it was all safe, the day it reopened was very busy - people wanting to see it ;-)
