Rainy Northampton--?

This is a diptych created in Northampton, using an umbrella based on Gustave Caillebotte's "Paris Street; Rainy Day"--a large painting in the Art Institute of Chicago. The intersection included below is at the very center of our small downtown.

The umbrella is large and quite marvelous--a gift from several years ago. Caillebotte (1848-1894) was a contemporary of the French impressionists, but remained independent and quite original in style. The painting is one of the Art Institute's signature works, dominating its gallery.

(Incidentally: For the curious, this is an improved version of the blip that I mentioned as almost having published yesterday.)
