B&W 100 #1: Think in black-and-white

I was inspired and encouraged by attraversiamo to learn more about b&w photography. So, as a treat for finishing julie's challenge, I bought "100 Ways to Take Better Black and White Photographs" by Michael Milton.

I decided to use the 100 ways listed in the book as a sort of 100 B&W challenge. Today, I was supposed to "think in black-and-white" and "translate what I see in the language of light, tone, shape and form." I roamed, took several shots of different subjects including this tree, these windows, and these wires. On my way home I saw this graffiti and thought it might look nice in b&w but as you can see it didn't turn out good. I'm unsatisfied with my output but then again since it's my first day on this challenge, I decided to cut myself some slack.:)

p.s.
I'd like to share this new site a kind friend built for me. :)
