wander, stumble, wonder

Nom nom nom nom

I'm slowly testing baking and cooking a lot of the things one might buy at the supermarket, partly because I like knowing what I'm eating, partly because it's cheaper, partly because it's more convenient, and mostly just because I really like cooking and baking. So far I've got an excellent recipe forginger nuts (although adapted a little - WAY more ginger and a stack more flour kneaded in as I roll them out to cut out with a cutter), can do some mean scones, and a delish butter chicken.

Last night I got stuck into crumpets. They're not perfect - the yeast was a little old, I didn't have quite the right flour, and the egg rings were only little, but they are tasty as anything, and so much more satisfying than shop bought ones to eat.

This weekend I'm going to buy fresh yeast and better flour, and have a play with the bread book. Who knows what will emerge from the oven...
