Friday 4 March 2011: Rust and light

A quick shot today of one of the gates to a garden near ours on the hill outside the village on my way to pick salad leaves for lunch. A busy day today with our soirée galloise tonight. It began as a way of saying thank you to friends who'd made us so welcome during our first year of living here full-time and now, with the fifth such evening, it's become a regular event. It's the only day of the year when we cook Welsh food and everyone seems to enjoy it. This year some of our guests will be those friends who came to Wales with us in the summer, so they now know a bit of what we're talking about! There's a list of things, some done, some still to do:

Cawl - made

Welsh cakes - made

Laverbread on toast with mushrooms and bacon - to make this evening

Caerffili cheese - brought back from Wales last week

bread and wine (French wine, of course!) - bought

Fitting 16 people into our kitchen - still to do, but we've done it before so we'll manage!
