The Angus Inn

Rugby Sevens is a 7 aside version of the full 15 aside game and was first played in Melrose in the Scottish Borders. Its a much faster version of the game with a lot more running rugby played and tries scored.

Wellington hosts the New Zealand leg of the annual world tournament but it's not really about the rugby, let's face it - it's about the costumes and the party! For years it's been the biggest fancy dress party in the country with the vast majority of the 34,500 crowd turning up in a variety of outfits ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous, the weird and the wonderful and some just downright wrong!

Last year we went as M*A*S*H and the year before as The People's Front of Judea from Life of Brian complete with sticks with sandals (it's a shoe!) tied on with string. With a 4 month old, Jo-Ann decided not to go but remarkably gave me a 2 day pass but I decided to sell my tickets on Tuesday as we have a lot to do with moving house in a fortnight and having to pay about a grand for a removals firm.

Instead, we took a walk down to the waterfront to soak up the atmosphere and as ever The Loaded Hog where I blipped this was the centre of events. There were hundreds there in all their regalia, us and a few bemused tourists who thought they landed in Rio in Mardi Gras. It was bonkers......there were people leaping into the harbour fully fancy dressed and some naked which was not nice to see as they were fat hairy blokes with really wee...well, I'll say no more. It must have been colder than I thought.

We'll be back at the Sevens....one day...keeping our clothes on.
