Tuesday 15 March 2011: Pacific Grace
I love the name of this sailing ship! This morning it wasn't raining so H and I had a good walk around doing some trail cleanup and I thought I was all set to choose another GREEN blip. But later this vessel came sailing across our view from the cabin- by now it is raining quite nicely!- so I grabbed the camera for a through-the-trees catch from the covered part of the deck. No time for tripod etc. But it's not just the photo - it was VERY misty out there! The 138' Gaff Schooner Pacific Grace is one of 2 boats built by the S.A.L.T. society (Sail And Life Training) a non-profit based in Victoria B. C. providing sail training for 2000 young people a year. Her maiden voyage was in 2001 and she has made 2 offshore voyages to the South Pacific and Asia with 24 trainees on board for a leg of the trip. When not offshore she provides 5-10 day trips for 31 trainees. She often anchors off Galiano Is. where we can see her (and on occasion, row around her- but NOT today!) Love to see her sail by!!
