Thursday 24 March 2011: Monk on the way to St James
Between sunrise in Portomarin and Palas de Rei, I met Kai.
He introduced himself as Giovanni, a Benedictine monk, but as his original tongue was German and I speak non of it, his full story was only revealed later when I introduced him to our German speaking guide.
He had wanted to be ordained into the order, but as rules were strict, his entry had been forbidden. As a consequence he decided to walk continually between Vatican City and Santiago de Compostela, having done this, to date for over three years.
He showed me all of his passports.
