South-Africa 359 years

Today marks the day, 359 years ago, when Jan van Riebeeck founded South-Africa!

It used to be a public holiday, and my late father was fortunate enough to be born on this day in 1922!! We always teased him that he never, ever had to work on his birthday!! Woohoo! But then, luckily after his retirement, the 'New South-Africa' came to light, and they don't think it is important to celebrate the 'birth' of our country! Thus: No public holiday anymore!! ;-(

The Emergency Services paid our school a visit this morning!

The Grade R to Grade 3 classes were the stars of the day! The Ambulance as well as the Rescue Unit from Necsa, (the Nuclear Energy Corporation of South-Africa) visited the school. The various features of the Rescue Truck was explained to them and then some learners posed as patients, in order to demonstrate how injured people are stabilised and treated before they are transported to hospital by ambulance.

The learners thanked the Emergency personnel with a nice cake to enjoy with their tea.
