A Knock Out Day

Lovely day

Went into town to meet some friends and had completely forgotten it was St George's Day, until I saw this . It was like being in the middle of a re run of It's A Knockout ( For people not from the UK, it was a programme in the seventies whereby people were dressed up in impossible outfits like this and expected to do an assault course whilst carrying huge vats of water to put in a container at the end. It was commentated by an over enthusiastic presenter who was loveable but you thought he was going to have a hernia, such was the level of his excitement ! )

So we blipped this not because of the significance or indeed it's photographic quality ( sorry, it's a bit crap!) but just because the kids were having a great time shaking hands with giant people. I don't think we discussed St George once.

I am ambivalent about patriotism but I liked the fact that today in our city it was a positive day celebrating our country rather than it being a day that the BNP or EDL took over .

This Blip by Appertunity has a much better St George's day write up and explains what I feel sometimes when I see the English flag and it is a shame that the far right has claimed the flag . On Have I Got News for You last night they were discussing Regent Street being full of Union Jacks apparently for the royal wedding or as they said it may be a sign the BNP is in town.

So I liked the fact there were no racial tensions in a city that can sometimes be tense. A gorgeous sunny day, ice creams on the grass in this square, watching two men juggle with fire wands whilst being on a unicycle and a ladder ( and who says men can't multi task!). After that we went to a park and hired a pedalo to go round the lake in . Then it was another friend's for a BBQ tea

Perfect .

Am enjoying this time off shennanigans

Merry Easter Eve
