Monday 2 May 2011: Fire on the Moor
Apparently it has been one of the driest Spring seasons for several years, certainly our garden is parched and I'm quite glad that I haven't had to mow the very long strip of grass which goes down the back of our terrace houses. We have both been working today but Tony looked up a few moments ago to see that across the valley at Ogden, the moor is on fire for the second time in a week. Whether this is the dry undergrowth or bank holiday vandalism no doubt we will find out on the local news tonight. It certainly poses a problem for the fire services because of its inaccessibility and the extent of the moor. The wildlife will no doubt suffer, in particularly ground nesting birds.
