Spring Fling day 2

1. We are going west today. Gatehouse of Fleet is a pretty wee place and our first stop. Then we go onto Skyreburn to an old aquarium which is now a gallery and studio space for this artist who transforms her shoes into paper sculptures. She is having breakfast with her family so we don't have time to chat other than to say how much they make us laugh. Which they do. This photo is the the biggest shoe there, the rest are positively tiny.

2. Round the peninsular to Wigtown - Scotland's Book Town. We have a soft spot for Wigtown after a slightly madcap event we ran at the book festival a couple of years ago with a pretty famous writer and a very well known actress. Now, we head to the big bookshop for an art installation by Deirdre Wilson who has been collecting words. As you walk round you might stumble across a neatly embroidered 'discombobulate' in a test tube on top of some ancient books on a shelf. Part of the process involves you being able to swap words; so we gift two words and in exchange we can take two that are already embroidered waiting in a little envelope with a needle and thread. We now need to go and find a home for them, take a picture and e mail it to her. We give 'perspicacity' and 'faculty' and take 'fractious' and 'muppet'. A very fair exchange.

3. A bracing walk out to the end of the land at Whithorn.

4. In a shed behind a pretty stone cottage we find a deliciously mad professor making mechanno machines. It's our last studio and we end the day with massive smiles on our faces.

5. We can't resist another trip to the Selkirk Arms for steak and a Selkirk Mess to share.
