Plus ça change...

Cake-day

Here is Mr B taking an unprecedented third slice of lemon drizzle cake. In fact, he's never been known to take more than one slice of cake before, and that under protest as he's 'not really a cake person'.

This was really Katherine's birthday cake as my little girl is ten today. Well, I say my little girl, but it seems she is turning the corner to teenage-ness. This morning was the first time she refused to wear something sensible because it wouldn't look cool. So we let her be cold and rained on in just her cardie and no coat. But just because it was her birthday (not sure I get the reverse logic in that.) I know I should say 'Ten already - sheesh, where did the years go?' But actually it seems to have taken ages.

Lovely morning opening presents and then taking the kids plus enormous cake to school, then we headed off to tackle our laywers who are astonishingly adept at ignorning emails. Turns out they have been acting on our emails, it's just that the other lawyers haven't done their job. For complicated reasons, our seller needs a court order to sell and for some reason (the other lawyer forgot to ask for it is my guess as to the reason) that was only granted a couple of weeks ago. To be safe, we should leave two months from that being granted until we sign our final contract and own the house, and start work (work that is booked in with all the contractors to start on Monday....)

All that resulted in a very glum Mr & Mrs B this morning deciding to spend their way out of depression, so we headed off and bought a replacement washing machine and a fridge we don't really need, because it was a bargain. They were delivered alarmingly promptly by two very amusing chaps and so the afternoon was brighter than the morning, though the weather wasn't.

And this afternoon Mr B found my favourite fudge recipe in amongst some random papers, which is great news for my sweet tooth.
