Rent-a-Goat

The ecological way to mow a big field these days is to bring in a herd of goats and let them graze free for a few days. We've seen this in several public spaces around town, but tonight on our neighborhood walk we found these animals at work just a couple blocks away, with houses all around. There is something so charming about a herd of goats in the middle of this urban setting. They all raise their heads when cars go by on the street below, but seem unruffled to be surrounded by so much activity.

It was hard to get even this shot, however, because the goats were high at the top of a hill and I was shooting into the sun. Ever the loyal supporter of this blog, Mr. Soozaday was all for my climbing the six foot fence to get closer. He also suggested my crawling under the gate, climbing a nearby tree, or hanging on to the fence and inching my way up the steep bank. It's heartwarming to have such encouragement and enthusiasm on the home front, but the very best thing is that he does the dishes so I can post here after supper.
