The Angus Inn

Kia Ora! A cold and windy day in Wellington with strong southerlies blowing up a bit of surf on the south coast and, I'm sure, a bit of a swell in the Cook Strait - not a great day to be on the ferry. This shows the surf rolling into Houghton Bay.

Speaking of bad days to get the ferry, I was hoping to get a decent blip of Barrett Reef which is about a kilometre behind the rocks in this shot but it was getting a bit dark and it started to rain shortly after I took this one anyway.

The relevance of the reef to bad ferry days is that 9 days ago was the 40th anniversary of the Wahine disaster that claimed 52 lives - a bad day for NZ and also for Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering company at Govan on the River Clyde in Scotland where the ship was built. The tragedy had nothing to do with the ship itself but they took great pride in all their ships in those days and apparently the loss of the Wahine and the 52 passengers and crew was felt very strongly on the Clyde. Changed days now....

And on that morbid note - cheers! Next blip a happier one - I promise!
