Wake

Today was the rest day half way through the competition so did we rest?? What do you think! lawrie had chartered a boat from Ardfern for twelve fortunate clubmates and we took a trip to spot as much local wildlife/sealife as we could. The tally was several species of birds including cormorants, oystercatchers, osprey and a peregrine (sadly the gales earlier in the year had destroyed the nests of the sea eagles and golden eagles). We were also fortunate to see an otter, porpoise and wild goats. Then came the exciting bit! We went through the whirlpool at Correyvreckan which is an exhilarating experience. Sadly my blips of the churning waters do not do the whirlpool justice so today's blip is of the wake from our boat in a calmer part of the trip.
Afterwards Tony and I picnicked in the National Trust gardens at Arduaine which very very pretty then it was back to Tralee Bay for a sprint race around the holiday village, woods and beach (rest day?) An enjoyable day was finished off nicely with dinner at the Oyster Inn with friends.
