Skip's Blips

By Skip

It's back!

The Baltimore Oriole, one of our more colorful birds, has returned from its winter in the south. It was exciting today to see a streak of orange flit from one tree to another. When it hid (very successfully) among the leaves, I had to do some careful maneuvering to find and blip him without scaring him off. Orioles love oranges. If you slice an orange in half and stick the halves on a pointed twig, they will fly in and feast on this special treat. We also have the Orchard Oriole, a slightly smaller bird of the same colors, although the orange is darker.

Today was a little cool, but lovely. As the hours passed, it got even more lovely, and the park was full of families enjoying the outdoors after all the rain we've had the past few days. Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.
