Mt. St. Helens!!!

I woke up this morning to the sun casting its first rays on Mt. Rainier, Mt. Hood, and Mt. St. Helens all within view. And now I have fallen completely in love with this state.

We hiked around the pumice plains today and into some of the drainage basins to look at some of the best examples of pyroclastic flow deposits in the world. Although I am by no means a geologist, it was still really interesting to learn something new and to see how quickly the entire landscape was changed by the 1980 eruption. The natural world is truly remarkable, and powerful.

Another highlight is that we came across a couple herds of elk on our hike out!
