Saturday 7 January 2012: Tough running under an ash cloud

Back in June last year the Puyehue-Cordón Caulle volcano erupted on the Chilean side of the Andes. This brought a massive ash cloud right around the southern hemisphere.

Now over 6 months later the ash cloud is still visible in Bariloche every now and again. Today was one such day and after a morning walk around Bahia Lopez in the afternoon a thick blanket of dust enveloped the city.

Still it didn't prevent these veteran runners from competing in a local race. Our favorite runner is wearing white in the distance proudly wearing his Bariloche headband.
