Sunday 8 January 2012: 10. wildlife

texas is home to an odd array of creatures that are specific to this part of the world. some spread out a bit, some have a very wide range, but they have interesting characters and a relationship to texas that is amusing to say the least.

the armadillo is perhaps most familiar to many people, but it remains one of many:

mockingbirds
javelinas
blind salamanders
eastern bluebirds
mexican free-tailed bats
bobcats
mountain lions (sometimes called panthers!!)
coyotes
horny toads

i could probably go on for some time - plenty of places have intriguing biodiversity but texas has some downright weird animals.

my favorite is probably the javelina.
