Modern Belem II

Back at Shopping Boulevard after some work calls, and feeling hugely better. The rains began as I was about to leave and I decided to stay on and see a film, Speilberg's War Horse. It's a grand sweep of a story with effective and mostly restrained evocations of times and people in England and France long past, with cinematography and style that had touches of all of How Green Was My Valley, National Velvet and Gone with the Wind, as well as thunderingly frightening WWI battle scenes that stand with Saving Private Ryan.

Of course, when it's all over you forget where you are and it's only when the lights come up that you remember you are so far away on another and very different continent. The walk back onto the street is always a thought after being so lost in another world.
