Saturday 14 January 2012: Standing room at Recoleta to view Evita
Today we continued our quest of exploring Buenos Aires by foot and focused on the barrios of Recoleta and San Martin.
Recoleta is famous for its grand cemetery which is the resting place for much of Argentina's elite, politicians and scholars. It is also very much on the tourist map for people to make a pilgrimage and see the tomb of Eva Peron or Evita. Standing room only to get a sneak peak but we thoroughly enjoyed the various spires and architecture.
In the afternoon we went to Plaza San Martin which has a moving Argentinian memorial to the Islas Malvinas / Falkland Islands war. Interesting that it is sited directly opposite the Torre de los ingles or English Tower.
Nightime saw a stroll around Palermo Soho and a taste of Argentinian steak at a local Parrilla. Very tasty although I still prefer an Aussie barbecue!
