Thursday 26 January 2012: Winkle pickers

The weather is wild. We lay in bed this morning listening to thunder, then watching hail, then sleet and finally wet snow! After all these shennaningans, the sun then came out. There is snow on the mountains and the wind is biting but I am full of awe and respect for this pair. They are out there, whatever the weather, collecting things - I think it must be winkles as the bucket is small and a lot of stooping and scrabbling is involved. An awful lot of winkles must be collected to make it worth their while and frostbite must be a realistic threat! Worth biggifying for it you look closely to the other side of the bay, you can see a single stack of wall, all that remains of an old tower house!

The Northern lights have been seen in Donegal and I'm sure I saw some odd green flickerings last night!! It's possible, they have been seen this far south before!
