Friday 2 March 2012: Black-Necked Stilt or AE'O
Today we visited a beautiful pond on the island of Hawaii, just about 3 miles south of the airport. Aimakapa Pond is amazingly beautiful and tranquil and today we saw several wetland birds. The black-necked stilt flew in as a pair, hunting for worms and aquatic insects in the mud flats. Just before we left one to to flight...wow, what a treat! The stilt population is only 1350 so I felt privledged to see this endemic race!
