Saturday 3 March 2012: White fronted tern flying near Cave Rock in storm

Went for a walk in the wind and rain just to get out of the house - too much reading of EQC stuff is depressing!

Had a look at Sumner and the birds were all hunkering down on the rocks - it was full tide and the sea was very rough.

Every now and again one would take off and be blown up in the air and away by the wind and have to fight back to get back to the rock.

In the background is Cave Rock an iconic part of Christchurch, now off limits as large falls of rock have come down from around the mouth of the cave.
